3. Moses was the parent and golden channel of All the Sacred Writers. The argument of this book elicited. Therefore, Moses was the parent and golden channel of all the sacred Writers, as it were, through whom heavenly doctrine was passed from God to men, who was faithful in all God’s house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things that were to be spoken, Hebrews 3:2, 5, comprehending all true piety and wisdom in five books, and in the first book, Genesis, the origin and causes of all things, and especially of man: Moses weaves together man’s fall and restoration; the propagation of the human race from one blood,[1] the increased malice of men, the universal Deluge sent thereupon, and after the re-creation of the world the foolish siege-engine in the plain of Shinar; with the world again fallen into idolatry and the Church reduced to remarkable straits, the setting apart of Abraham from it, the covenant of grace solemnly struck with him repeatedly, and finally the history of the same Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the twelve Patriarchs, and the migration of Jacob and the twelve Patriarchs from the land of Canaan unto Egypt, and the diverse happenings of the Church while they were abiding there. Saint Stephan, the Protomartyr, delivered an historical Synopsis of the book in Acts 7:2-17, but Saint Paul a didactic Synopsis in Hebrews 11:3-22.
