De Moor VIII:16: The Order of Creation

Writer's picture: Dr. DildayDr. Dilday

The Aptness in the Order of Production also shines forth; since God has declared His Wisdom and Goodness in the progress from things Less Perfect to things More Perfect:  more specifically, in the Visible World God has advanced from Things Inanimate to things animate, from Things Irrational to Things Rational; He created habitations before inhabitants, prepared food before the animals, and all things that were going to be of use for man before man.

God has no less declare His power in the giving of Light before the stars, and in other things; namely, in the alternation of day and night before the Stars, and in Plants before the Sun; in which God has given specimens of His Independent Power, not bound to second Causes.  Which, and similar things, are known uniquely from Revelation, since the Order and manner of Creation depends completely upon the altogether free determination of God’s infinite Will, being able to produce finite things in a great many ways.  And from this is sought an argument from the History of Creation for the divine Revelation granted to Moses; for, if in this narration he had followed only the guidance of his reason, he would never have contrived this Order, so contrary to the ordinary Laws of nature.
