The parts:
I. The giving of thanks for the grace and hope given in temptations, chapter 1:1-12.
II. Various exhortations, chapters 1:13-5:14.
1. General exhortations: chapters 1:13-2:10.
a. That they prepare themselves for grace, imitate the holiness of God, etc.: chapter 1:13-25.
b. That they desire sincere milk, and grow up in Him, as living stones in the house of God: chapter 2:1-10.
2. Particular exhortations, that they converse honestly among the Gentiles: chapters 2:11-5:14: in which are:
a. The exhortation itself: chapter 2:11, 12.
b. Particular commandments given:
α. To subjects, to servants: chapter 2:13-25.
β. To wives, to husbands, to all: chapter 3.
γ. To all, that they cease from sin, be sober, modest, etc.: chapter 4.
δ. To elders, to the younger, to all: chapter 5.
