3.  The scope of the Prophecy.


It is undoubtedly the scope/goal of the Prophecy, that both the people of God might be consoled, whom, after the ten tribes were deported into Assyria by Shalmaneser, whose capital was Nineveh, his son, Sennacherib, was also going to afflict grievously, as it is evident from 2 Kings 18:10, 13; and so that he might convince all the enemies of God, especially the Jews, with Christ revealed in the flesh, oppressing His kingdom, concerning the just wrath of God; and so that, finally, he might rouse the Church to faith in the one and only God.
