10. The Psalms were divided according to their dignity: מעלות, מכתם.

With respect to dignity, some Psalms are called מכתמים/Michtamim, golden songs, Psalms 16; 56-60; others, מעלות, of Degrees, of ascensions, or of excellences, which are fifteen in number, set in a continuous series from Psalm 120 to Psalm 134, so called from the excellence, or ascent of the Church by degrees: although others, especially the Hebrews, think otherwise.
