Dr. Dilday, how would you classify Shedd’s Dogmatic Theology? I assume “Dogmatic Theology” is not a separate discipline, but that the word dogmatic is just part of the title? Is it apart of the Systematic or Biblical discipline or a different one?

"Dogmatic Theology" and "Systematic Theology" are synonymous. "Dogma" is another term for "Doctrine", perhaps with the added nuance of "well-grounded and sure".

My son and I were listening to your lecture again (and probably again) to keep squeezing more juice out of your lectures (the oils of truth) while prepping our kitchen for a fresh coat of paint.


I remember from my morning reading this quote in Matthew Henry's commentary, "Those whom God designs for any service his providence shall concur with his grace to prepare and qualify for it." 1Samuel 16:14-23


This setting was the occasion of a good juxtaposition of Saul and David, how the Spirit of the Lord rested upon David and departed from Saul.

I wanted to read Matthew Henry, as well as your translation work of Poole in the 1…

Dr. Steven Dilday holds a BA in Religion and Philosophy from Campbell University, a Master of Arts in Religion from Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia), and both a Master of Divinity and a  Ph.D. in Puritan History and Literature from Whitefield Theological Seminary.  He is also the translator of Matthew Poole's Synopsis of Biblical Interpreters and Bernardinus De Moor’s Didactico-Elenctic Theology.
